There is some terrific racing at Salisbury this afternoon. Farhh’s brother Basem is in action in a quality handicap (3.55) while there are also a couple of good novice and conditions races to watch out for as well.
Many punters have been waiting for the reappearance of one of Godolphin’s leading three-year-olds as his mark of 95 certainly underestimates the potential this colt has in the locker.
He ran twice in the spring, justifying favouritism in the Wood Ditton for newcomers at Newmarket but was turned over at 4/9 at Beverley.
Something was amiss that day and he returned with a bang at Sandown to win a handicap over a mile in strong fashion. He’s now up 6lb but this brother to top-class 1m/1m2f winner surely has more to give over this distance.
Saying that, from a betting point of view his price of 13/8 looks a tad on the short side to me. Many will undoubtedly disagree and it won’t be a huge surprise to see him absolutely hose up.
The best bet of the day does come from Salisbury – in the Vanarama Challenge Handicap (5:00). Tamayuz Star may have not lived up to his two-year-old billing when trained by Richard Hannon, but he’s still a decent performer and should be capable of winning a race of his current mark of 84.
The switch back up to six furlongs could do the job today. It was no surprise to see the colt fail to go the pace over the minimum trip at Yarmouth last time but he did well to plug on for fourth.
WEDNESDAY’S TIP (SALISBURY)
17:00 TAMAYUZ STAR 11/1 (1PTS EW with BET365)
On that showing the 11/1 on offer here with each way stakes in mind looks very interesting. This looks an open renewal and the selection is only one of a few runners that looks capable of winning off his current mark. Get on with one point each-way stakes.
Meanwhile, and connections of some Prix D’Arc Triomphe contenders have been flexing their muscles in the build up to the race, none more so than the Treve camp.
Trainer of the defending champ, Criquette Head-Maarek, was unable to hide her enthusiasm after the Al Shaqab-owned filly came through her final piece of work with flying colours under big-race partner Thierry Jarnet.
“I really have the impression she has come on a lot for her last run,” said Head-Maarek
“Today she showed she has rediscovered a big part of her powers. It’s good to see as we approach the big day.”
The filly can be backed at 10/1 for Sunday’s showpiece.
