Thursday’s Racing Tip: Buck Magic can down Gevrey Chambertin at Bangor

dynaste-cheltenhamChange of tact today for Lewis Jones as he plunges back into National Hunt racing, and it’s safe to see he’s pretty excited to see the jumping game returning. He’s taking on a very short price runner at Bangor….

Today is a day dominated by with jump fixtures: three from the UK and one from Ireland with only Kempton putting on flat racing. The jumps season is closing in comrades. How fantastic. The jucies are really flowing now with only a month until Cheltenham opens it doors for it’s November meeting.

Exciting grey Gevrey Chambertin, who ran in the RSA Chase last season, is a short-priced favourite to make a winning return over fences at Bangor today, but I’m well against him at a terribly short price of 1/3 and am backing his market rival BUCK MAGIC to get the better of the Martin Pipe trained hot pot.

A full brother to the stable’s Grade 1-winning chaser Grands Crus, Gevrey Chambertin faces just two rivals in the 2m4½f novice chase and is seemingly set for an easy victory.

But, the hype around this horse is a bit misplaced in my eyes. He stopped very quickly when travelling powerfully in his prep race for the RSA Chase last season and it’s never a good sign to see a horse do that at any level of racing.

THURSDAY’S TIP (BANGOR)

14:50 BUCK MAGIC (2PT WIN with BET365)

Now, Pipe is a master at getting horses back to their best, but an unwillingness to try was on show by his full brother during his career and I feel it might be a family trait.

Of course, I could be talking cobblers and he’ll hack up by at 1/3 I’m willing to pay to lay that to find out if my theory has legs. Buck Magic is a decent performer in his own right winning a competitive 2m5f handicap hurdle at 2012 Cheltenham Open meeting and scoring over 3m in that sphere at Newbury the following spring.

This is his chase debut after very long absence but the stable is going well and he may not have to be foot perfect to beat the favourite if he flops.

Remember to place the bet with Bet365 and new customers can get a 100% deposit bonus of up to £200. That means, for example, if you back the selection to win this race with £200, Bet365 will give you a free £200 bet as a reward.
